TO THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY: The face of HIV/AIDS has changed in Africa, it is no longer the same as in the western world. Yes the disease is the same, the medical recommendations are the same, the symptoms are the same and yes the result is death. However HIV/AIDS on the continent has ceased to be just a social or moral disease, HIV/AIDS has become: An economic disease, A political and poverty disease. A disease with no boundaries encompassing wives, husbands, mothers, fathers and innocent babies and oh-so many children. It is our belief that we will become a significant resource in marshalling and directing efforts to alleviate suffering in Zimbabwe's rural and high-density urban areas, while simultaneously increasing prevention efforts, particularly to the youth in communities of New York. We are vigorously pursuing efforts on several fronts to fulfill our mission of mutual support between Zimbabweans and Americans. With the current international focus on Africa and the HIV/AIDS pandemic there, we find ourselves at an unusual place: strong contacts with community leaders, in a part of Africa with some of the greatest needs, and an infrastructure in place in New York that has a successful history of medical, educational, and cultural Philanthropy support.
Come with us and make a change.
